Be Totally You

Be Totally You a not for profit organisation based in South London offers support by providing marginalised and disadvantaged young people and adults with accredited training.

We were thrilled and proud that in 2008 we were the recipients of the first Creme of Nature Community Action Award. Working in the charitable sector can be extremely challenging, the need for the type of services we provide is pressing, but resources are limited. Thanks to the vision of Colomer and Creme of Nature, we have been able to offer accredited training and work experience in Hairdressing, Beauty Therapy and Customer Services to over 220 young people since 2008.

Highlights included awards ceremonies in which James Cleverly Deputy Mayor for London and Gina Yashere presented prizes and certificates of achievements.

In a News article one of our learners said that Be Totally You had changed her life, giving her the chance and opportunity she thought she would never achieve.

The award also provided us with a track record, which in turn opened other doors for other organisations to work with us through contracts and funding. Examples include the Learning and Skills Council and the Department of Work and Pensions – who asked us to create a number of jobs in the Hair and Beauty Sector as a part of the Future Jobs Fund. 22 young people aged 19 – 24 who had been unemployed for over 6 months accessed these jobs and gained invaluable experience.

None of this would have been possible without the Creme of Nature Community Action Award; it provided Be Totally You with an excellent platform from which we were able to turn an unloved disused building into a modern, fully equipped training salon, offering support, qualifications and improved life chances for some of the most disadvantaged young people in the UK.
